Star Sydney Casino Licence Suspension Extended by NSW Regulator

The Star Sydney’s casino licence will remain suspended after the New South Wales Independent Casino Commission extended regulatory oversight of the property.
The term of regulator-appointed manager Nick Weeks has been extended until June 30, 2027. The casino can continue operating during this period while its licence remains suspended.
NICC Chief Commissioner Philip Crawford said Star had made significant progress in addressing regulatory issues but said concerns remained over governance, leadership and culture.
The regulator said the suspension could be lifted if the casino shows that its remediation measures have been effectively embedded across the business.
Star is also awaiting the outcome of civil proceedings brought by financial crimes regulator AUSTRAC. The NICC said uncertainty remains over the group’s ability to support its remediation work while filling key leadership and governance positions.
In June 2026, the NICC fined The Star Sydney A$10 million over systemic failures linked to historical financial crime risks.
The decision follows a separate move in Queensland, where authorities extended the deferral of the Star Gold Coast licence suspension and the special manager’s appointment until March 31, 2027.
