Betty Penalised Over Underage Gambling Failures
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has fined Betty CA$120,000 for failures in its age and player eligibility checks.
Betty reported a problem with its verification system to the regulator in November 2025. The issue allowed nine people under the legal gambling age of 19 to create accounts, deposit money and gamble online.
Another 14 underage users were able to open accounts but did not make deposits. AGCO CEO and registrar Dr Karin Schnarr stressed:
The legal age requirement is one of the most basic and important safeguards in Ontario’s regulated gaming market.
She added that gambling companies must make sure their systems work before they go live. The regulator will take action when operators fail to meet these duties. A Betty spokesperson explained:
We reported it to the AGCO upon discovery and immediately closed the accounts.
The company said it has added more safeguards to improve its player checks and prevent similar cases. Betty accepted the regulator’s findings and the CA$120,000 penalty.
The operator also confirmed that it would continue working with the AGCO and investing in systems designed to keep Ontario’s regulated gambling market safe.
