Buenos Aires Bill Proposes New Rules for Online Gambling
Lawmakers in Argentina’s Buenos Aires province are considering new rules that would tighten responsible gambling requirements for licensed online betting operators.
The bill, introduced by Provincial Deputy Mayra Mendoza, would require mandatory facial recognition, session time limits and stricter identity checks across all licensed iGaming platforms.
If approved, players would be limited to 60-minute gaming sessions. Once the limit is reached, platforms would automatically log users out and block access for at least one hour.
The proposal would also limit users to three logins every 24 hours. Platforms would have to display the time spent playing and the amount wagered, while warning messages would appear if gambling behaviour suggests a loss of control. Mayra Mendoza stated:
Cyber-gambling addiction has consolidated as a complex issue affecting all age groups, showing up with particular aggressiveness in adolescents and young adults.
The bill would also introduce real-time facial recognition for account logins, deposits, withdrawals and higher-value bets.
Operators that fail to comply could face financial penalties, temporary licence suspensions or the loss of their operating licence.
The proposal will now be reviewed by the Buenos Aires Chamber of Deputies’ Gambling, Lottery and Gambling Addiction Prevention Commission before moving to the next stage of the legislative process.
